Public Audiences need at least 5,000 users to be generated and must stay above 4,000 to remain active. If the size falls below this, the audience is removed and won't be re-added until it reaches 6,000 users. This process ensures privacy and compliance by maintaining sufficiently large audience sizes despite natural fluctuations.
RainBarrel will not build Public Audiences using points-of-interests considered sensitive due to the nature of the activities and/or the vulnerability of individuals visiting the following locations:
Minimum Audience Size - A minimum audience size of 1,000 users is required for a Custom Audience to be created and activated on a digital ad platform. This threshold accommodates the specific parameters of custom audiences while ensuring privacy protection for users within an audience.
Prohibited Terms - Custom audiences may not be named using words deemed as discriminatory or exploitative. This prevents the creation of audiences that potentially use sensitive or unethical criteria.
Overlap Checks - RainBarrel will check if custom audiences overlap with sensitive locations. By doing so, custom audiences are ensured to not unintentionally target or include individuals from sensitive locations, thereby upholding ethical standards and privacy protections. An audience will be flagged if more than 90% of its latitude/longitude coordinates intersect with known sensitive locations. Additionally, an audience must intersect with 3 or more sensitive locations to be flagged prior to processing and generating the audience. This stringent flagging criterion ensures that any potential overlaps with sensitive locations are identified and addressed before an audience is created.
Data Handling and Risk Mitigation - RainBarrel will remove data within a 50-meter radius around prohibited locations to mitigate risks. Removing data within a specified radius around these locations helps to further protect the privacy of individuals; such locations include:
Campaign Usage Context - If a client creates an audience that is flagged due to its overlap with sensitive points-of-interests, and their intended use of this audience for their campaign is not discriminatory or exploitative in nature, they must contact the RainBarrel team to provide context. The RainBarrel team will review the request and make the final decision on whether their desired audience can be created and used for their specific use case. By requiring clients to provide context for flagged audiences, RainBarrel ensures that all campaigns are conducted ethically and responsibly, safeguarding the privacy and well-being of individuals tagged at sensitive locations.
